A change in role—not purpose

The work is bigger than one name on a ballot.

Don’s advocacy began with a simple belief: Oshawa can make better decisions when it listens closely, measures honestly and puts quality of life at the centre of growth.

The ideas and priorities developed through Don’s work are now being carried forward within mayoral candidate Dave Westlake’s campaign. Don is serving as Dave’s Campaign Manager and team lead—helping organize people, strengthen policy and build a citywide movement for practical change.

The title changed. The responsibility to Oshawa did not.

How Don approaches change

A standard for public decisions.

Advocacy should do more than identify what is wrong. It should help people understand the system, develop credible alternatives and measure whether those alternatives work.

  1. 01

    People before process

Public systems should be designed around the people who rely on them—not around the convenience of the system itself.

  2. 02

    Evidence before assumptions

Better decisions begin with accessible information, honest measurement and the courage to change course when outcomes fall short.

  3. 03

    Outcomes before activity

Reports, meetings and spending are inputs. The real test is whether life is becoming safer, more affordable and more connected.

  4. 04

    Participation before division

Oshawa moves forward when residents, businesses, volunteers and public institutions can contribute meaningfully to the work.
